Amy Smith is a board certified music therapist at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston TX where she is currently developing the Music Therapy program. Prior to coming to TCH she worked at The Women’s Hospital of Texas and Children’s Memorial Herman Hospital in combined Child Life Specialist/Music Therapist roles. Amy has also worked at Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne Australia where she was an Education Play Therapist providing education and support to children throughout the hospital. Amy received her Master’s of Arts degree in music with a music therapy emphasis in 2006 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and has pursued a career with infants and children ever since. Ms. Smith has presented at regional and national conferences on a variety of topics and has been the principle investigator on two music research studies involving infants. She has been published in the Journal of Neonatal Nursing as well as Music Therapy Perspectives and is currently working on a new research study for publication. In addition to her career as a music therapist Amy has pursued teaching Kindermusik infant and toddler classes throughout Houston as well as directing a young children’s choir. As a licensed Kindermusik educator since 2007 Amy believes in the power of this program to bring lifelong music enjoyment from the earliest age while focusing on creating opportunities to focus on important developmental milestones. Amy is passionate about working with children and their families and is excited to help develop and grow the Kindermusik program for The Music Academy of Houston.
